Mike’s Traditional Best Man Speech

Word Count : 494

Good evening friends and family as well as our now wedded couple! For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Mike and today I’ve had the privilege of being Owen’s best man. I’m known to be many things, but a public speaker isn’t one of them, so luckily for all you I’m going to keep this short and sweet.

On behalf of myself and the rest of the wedding party, I would like to thank Owen and Jennifer for inviting us to be a part of their special day. I’m sure you’ll all agree with me that the ceremony today was touching and beautiful. pause for clapping But it wasn’t all happy moments. Jennifer looked absolutely stunning today, and, I’m sure all the guys will agree that it’s always a little bit sad to see another beautiful woman being taken off the market. And ladies, Owen’s no longer eligible either. Funny thing.. none of the girls seem to be too broken up about it at all.

Traditionally in his speech, the best man will tell all kinds of amusing stories about the groom. Stories about the adventures they’ve had, and the trouble they’ve gotten into together. I’m not going to do that for two reasons. First, the hall is only rented until 2 am. In terms of stories about Owen, that would get us to about the 3rd grade. The second reason is that the goal of telling these stories is usually to embarrass the groom in front of his friends and family. Allow me to assure everyone here that Owen is more than capable of embarrassing himself without any assistance, and he’s much better at it than I could ever hope to be.

What I will say is that it’s been an honor to get to know you over the last few years Owen, and I couldn’t be happier for you. You’ve found a woman who is kind, honest, caring, and who deserves nothing but the best husband there is. Luckily you nailed her down before she had a chance to meet him.

But seriously Jennifer, I’ve gotten to know Owen quite well over the years, and I will say this – you have a husband who is devoted to you and will never let you down. I’ve seen him at his worst, and I’ve seen him at his best.. but through the years I have never seen him as happy as he is as when he’s with you.

Friends, as a man who will drink to just about anything, it gives me great pleasure to invite you all to drink to something worthwhile. Please join me in a toast, Owen & Jennifer, I know the two of you will are going to have a long and happy life together. I speak for everyone here when I say I wish you both the very best. May your love be modern enough to survive the times, but old fashioned enough to last forever.

To Owen & Jennifer!
