Good evening, everyone!
I’m Susan, but tonight, I think I should just be known as Liam’s Mom. After all, this day is really all about him and his new boss—I mean, wife—Sophia!
I’ve been trying to figure out what I could possibly say on such an important day, and to be honest, I could stand here and give you the usual mother-of-the-groom speech. I could tell you how proud I am of Liam, how happy I am that he’s found such a wonderful partner in Sophia, and how I knew from the first time I met her that she was “the one.” And all of that is true! But, let’s be real—Liam and I have always done things our own way, and traditional just isn’t our style. So, let’s throw the script out the window, shall we?
I thought I’d share a little story that might surprise some of you, or maybe it’ll explain a lot. When Liam was younger, he was… how do I put this… creative with the truth. Let’s just say I had to learn pretty early on that if I asked, “Did you clean your room?” and he said “Yes,” I should probably go check for myself.
But here’s the thing: every single time he told me one of those “creative” truths, he was always trying to make life a little more fun, a little more adventurous. Whether he was building secret forts, making up stories about alien invasions, or figuring out ways to sneak extra dessert (don’t worry, Sophia, I’ll tell you the tricks later), Liam has always been full of life and mischief. And that’s one of the things I love most about him.
So, today, as I stand here, watching him marry the love of his life, I can’t help but smile knowing that Sophia is in for one incredible adventure. Sophia, you’re getting a man who will make every day more interesting than the last. He’ll probably drive you crazy at times—I know from experience!—but he’ll always make sure you’re laughing along the way.
And to you, Liam: as your mom, I’ve had the privilege of watching you grow from that mischievous little boy into the kind, compassionate man you are today. I couldn’t be prouder. But today isn’t just about looking back; it’s about celebrating the future. You’re starting a new chapter, with a new partner in crime. And let me just say, you’ve chosen wisely.
Now, let me give you two one piece of advice—take it or leave it. (You know Liam will probably leave it, right?!) But here it is: love isn’t about the grand gestures or the perfect moments. It’s about sticking together through the messy, imperfect ones. It’s about laughing through the chaos and loving each other even when you’re driving each other nuts. And I have no doubt that you two will be amazing at that.
So, let’s raise our glasses to the newlyweds. To a lifetime of laughter, love, and maybe just a little bit of chaos. I wouldn’t expect anything less from the two of you!
Congratulations, Liam and Sophia! I love you both more than words can say.
