Good evening, everyone!
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Jing, and I’ve had the absolute privilege of being Mei’s best friend for as long as I can remember. Standing here today, seeing Mei marry Li, is a moment that fills my heart with immense joy.
Growing up with Mei, I’ve always admired her strength, intelligence, and kindness. We’ve been through so many stages of life together—from little girls making dumplings during Lunar New Year to studying late nights for exams. Throughout everything, one thing was clear—Mei was always destined for great things. And when she told me about Li, I could see it was something different.
When she first started talking about Li, she was reserved, but there was a glimmer in her eyes. I remember thinking, “Mei has met someone very special.” And when I met him, I realized exactly why. Li, you are the perfect complement to Mei. You are patient, thoughtful, and someone who truly understands her. You bring out the best in each other, and anyone who knows you both can see how deep your connection runs.
In Chinese culture, we cherish the balance of yin and yang—the idea that opposites not only attract but complete each other. And seeing Mei and Li together, I can see that balance perfectly. Mei’s energy, drive, and determination meet Li’s calm, steady nature, and together, they create something truly harmonious. Your relationship embodies this balance, and I have no doubt that this harmony will carry you through life’s challenges and triumphs.
Family is incredibly important to both of you, and I’ve always admired how deeply you both honor your parents and traditions. Today, we not only celebrate your love but also the joining of two families, which is a significant and beautiful part of Chinese weddings. Watching your families come together, sharing in the joy of this moment, is a reminder that love and family are at the heart of everything we do.
Now, being part of an occasion like this, I’d like to share a little wisdom. Mei, Li—your marriage, like the finest Chinese tea, will grow richer and deeper over time. The key is patience, understanding, and nurturing. It’s the small acts of kindness, the everyday moments of love, that will build the foundation for a lifetime together. Just like the bamboo that bends but doesn’t break, your love will weather any storm if you take care of each other with that same gentle strength.
One of my favorite Chinese proverbs says, “An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance.” That red thread led you to each other, and today we celebrate the beautiful journey you are about to embark on together.
So, as your best friend, my wish for you is this: Always hold onto the joy and laughter you share today. When life gets busy, make time for each other. When things get tough, lean on each other. And most importantly, always choose love, in every small and big way.
To everyone here, let’s raise our glasses to Mei and Li. May your marriage be as prosperous as the red envelopes we exchanged, as joyful as the lion dance we enjoyed, and as enduring as the love we see between you today.
To Mei and Li—cheers!
